Greenlots will provide a network of more than 100 electric vehicle chargers as the Los Angeles Police Department fields an initial 100 all-battery BMW i3 vehicles.

The network will help the city learn how best put electricity to work for vehicle power as it adds more and larger EVs under Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Sustainability Plan, known as pLAn. Not quite qualified as full-fledged patrol vehicles, the 100 BMW i3 cars will be used for LAPD administrative work (F&F, May 10).

Greenlots is to supply 100 Level 2 chargers and four DC fast chargers to LAPD, and integrate its software with LAPD’s fleet management program, providing a custom fleet charging and reporting system.
